my workspace: planning my presentation using the Presentation Zen method

Here’s a ‘real time’ pic of the way I planned the presentation (analog, thanks to Garr Reynolds’ advice). I was much more nervous than I thought I would be, not because I don’t love this stuff with a passion (I certainly do!), but because in the past, I’ve been more comfortable actually working than going out and talking about it.
Clearly, that tendency needs to change.
So, I girded up my…no, that’s an unfortunate image, I steeled my resolve, no, that’s not quite right - let’s just say that I took a deep breath and stepped out in front of about 60 dynamic women. And the thing that’s encouraging, for you if you’re doing presentations, too, is that as soon as I stepped from behind the podium, I looked out into a sea of curious faces, and everything fell into place.
I think that’s due to good practice, and even more due to the planning process I used this time. I had Garr’s book open on a stand, and made ample use of the ツ・99 scratch pads to build up a huge picture of what I wanted to let folks know…and then I started whittling away, bit by bit, until it seemed as if I didn’t actually have enough material.

The funny thing is that, due to that nervousness, I couldn’t see the Presenter’s Tools in keynote - all I saw on the laptop was the same thing everyone else saw on the big screen. But it didn’t phase me, because I was telling stories I know and love and because I had a clear structure in my mind going in.

It was close to live vocal performances, in some ways: the practice and the joy of being the center of attention takes over when I’m there…but the quality of the concentration is somehow different, more broad…hard to explain.

but I’d love to do more of it!
