Early TV show about the Internet from Japan

Welcome new visitor! Not sure what's here? Check out our Home page.

I’m such a geek that I actually enjoyed this. Described as:

Found footage on a VHS tape of a very early TV show about the Internet from Japan. Please write to me at carl at media.org if you have details. At about 2′ in, there was a one-minute blank gap that was edited out.

The show features Jun Murai, the Internet Samurai, in one of his first television appearances.

One of the US demonstrators notes:

A 2MB file might take a long time to download

The beauty of how far we’ve traveled from the time this video was procued is that I could have downloaded this 2GB (1024 megabytes) file in a few minutes – of course, it helps that I live in Japan!

h/t to Carl & the Internet Archives

(oh, and, can I be the Internet Samurai this year, pretty please? ;-) )

Couple of African Americans sitting at Tokyo Hacker Space talking tech

I’m very grateful to tech entrepreneur/mover and shaker Ed Dunn, founder of the phrase-based search engine Fooky who came on a fact-finding trip to Tokyo, got in touch with folks via Facebook and came down to Tokyo Hacker Space to talk about tech, life in Tokyo and beyond.

You can see the first part of our conversation below. Head to his blog, Dream and Hustle, for parts 2 & 3.
Thanks Ed!
