The arc of a beta tester: trying out Cacoo, the online diagram tool

Welcome back!

just trying out the Cacoo plugin for Wordpress. It’s an app for creating diagrams online, and with the plugin, I can stay in WP and create a diagram within a post. click the image to embiggen:

There’s also chat and sharing functionality. Pretty interesting, reasonably good user interface…if you’re looking for a way to brainstorm with someone in the context of a blog post, this could be your app.

back to work!

Ask Your Target Market: Potentially Useful App (in beta) for Small Businesses

I’m such a sucker for beta tests (that’s when new or radically modified web applications ask a small group of folks to try out the product or service so that they can see what works and what doesn’t, and improve).
I’m happy to report on what works and what doesn’t. And, I’m much more of a regular person than a real geek, so it’s possible that the stuff that stumps me, say in user interface design, may also stump non-geeks. I also get very excited about fresh new uses of the internet.
(speaking of which, where is my Google Wave invitation? ;-) )

So, I’ve been playing around a bit with Ask Your Target Market as a closed beta tester.

Here’s the idea:

AskYourTargetMarket.com is the web’s first and only affordable self-service platform for creating market research surveys specific to your particular business. The step-by-step process walks you through defining your target market, creating your own surveys, and then sending your surveys to those specific consumers.

The thing I think is remarkable is the (so far) easy interface, and the prices: like starting at $29.95 for a very targeted group of 50 people to answer your specific questions.

I’m still thinking about the kinds of surveys that could be useful, given that my target markets aren’t based in the States, generally. But I’m definitely going to play with this, and you might want to ask them for an invitation as well.

If you’re starting up a company or division that focuses on North Americans, even those based in Japan, this may be a very helpful way to get your target audience’s opinion about what you’re trying to do.

I’ll post again when I’ve gone done a survey or two. Interested to see whether or not they’re planning to come to Japan…
