I think this video has it exactly right. Personally, while I kind of like the idea of being a new media ‘rock star’ because it means I’m getting good responses to my work, I’m most interested in that light that goes on in people’s minds when I share something I’ve learned that actually resonates with them.
That light is incredibly addictive, and has no downside that I can see.
I’ve been doing quite a bit more consulting lately, as I move the Modern Media Japan business model to include one-on-one meetings, workshops, as well as production. It seems to be the right move: when I contribute to my clients’ understanding of this media world of words and phrases and concepts they know they want to understand but don’t have the time or inclination to dig deep into it, I get feedback that helps motivate me to dig deeper, explain better, tell better descriptive stories and learn more myself.
Now, I think the funnel idea is still a valid one, but it’s only the framework of the picture: this mondaydots videos helps explain what’s going on inside the framework, and that is incredibly helpful.
