So, I’m working on something intricate, and listening to This Week in Tech#216(really fun one this week, with Molly Wood, Gina Trapani, Brian Brushwood and Patrick Norton: Leo LaPorte is apparently rockin the TED conference in Dubai.
Anyway, they were talking about the silliness of Ralph Lauren trying sue Boing Boing because BB rightfully giggled at this my-gosh-I-hope-it’s-Photoshopped picture of a ‘model’ in Lauren stuff:

And they talked about Dove’s Campaign for Real Beauty. Which I hadn’t paid a lot of attention to, and didn’t realize that it went sorta worldwide. So, to refresh my memory, I googled ‘dove ads beauty’, and there it was at the very top.
Of course, I look at the pull down menu for Japan. Because I am, after all, in Japan. I was curious about the kinds of folks they used.
Imagine my surprise to see that Japan isn’t one of the countries listed. They’ve got Korea. They’ve got Vietnam. They’ve got the different language flavors in Belgium, and Canada. I don’t see any African nations either (I don’t know if Dove is available but worldwide is worldwide, no?). But I know it’s available here, because I’ve bought Dove products, I’m pretty sure locally branded.
But no Japan on the country pull down. No China, either.
Hm.
Ah well, I have to get back to work. Just thought that was rather curious…maybe I’m missing something.
